Mapping My Doha Life
When I first moved to Doha, Qatar, I felt overwhelmed learning all the new parts of the city, driving in intense and often chaotic traffic, locating streets that usually have no names or markings, and having to learn how to negotiate all the roundabouts. As a way to learn the city, I often took different paths to run errands and go between home and work at the university. Between March and October of 2010 I decided start plotting my movements through the city. I created a map in Illustrator based on a series of google map images I stitched together. Every few days I plotted my movements. The map is not entirely accurate, nor did it capture all my movements, but it did start to reveal the structure of the city and my weekly routines.
